Massive driving time violations: heavy transport stopped on the A2!
Massive violations were discovered during heavy traffic checks on the A2 motorway. Among the vehicles checked was a Belarusian special transport that was traveling with 60 tons of heavy machinery. This vehicle was stopped due to serious technical defects and failure to secure the load. The driver faced having the vehicle immobilized while authorities withheld the license plate and registration certificate. In addition, the vehicle was prohibited from continuing to drive and temporary security was confiscated Gailtal Journal reported.
The findings during the traffic controls were not limited to technical defects. An Austrian driver was found to have discrepancies regarding driving and rest times. This check revealed that he was traveling with someone else's driver card, which could have significant legal consequences.
Regulations for driving and rest times
Compliance with driving and rest times is not only crucial for road safety, but is also regulated by law. The Legislation for drivers include, among other things, Regulation (EC) No. 561/2006, which sets the maximum daily driving times to 9 hours (10 hours in exceptional cases). The legal requirements also include daily rest periods, which must be at least 11 hours, while reduced rest periods of 9 hours are also permitted.
The use of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes when transporting goods is subject to these regulations, which have been developed to protect drivers and other road users. Violations can result in significant fines for drivers and companies, which can be up to 5,000 euros for drivers and up to 30,000 euros for companies, depending on the severity and type of violation.
Monitoring and consequences
If the regulations are not adhered to, the police and occupational safety authorities are responsible for checking and punishing you. This has already become clear during the current controls on the A2: the authorities of Gailtal Journal have taken rigorous action against the massive violations and ensured successful measures to ensure the safety of people and goods in road traffic.
For the drivers and companies affected, this not only means legal challenges, but also a mental examination of the applicable driving and rest times as well as the technical requirements for the vehicles in order to avoid further violations in the future.
