Young hostage takers: Robbery of taxi driver with knife!

A brutal incident occurred in Vienna-Landstrasse on January 16th in which five young people are suspected of slightly injuring a taxi driver during a robbery. The perpetrators, two 13-year-olds from Syria and Serbia, a 14-year-old with unclear nationality and two 15-year-olds from Syria and Iraq, are said to have pressed a sharp object against the driver's neck and attacked him with punches. After successfully escaping with the victim's wallet, the State Criminal Police Office was able to initiate an investigation. The situation previously escalated when four of the suspects also committed a serious robbery near Meidling train station, where they threatened to kill a 14-year-old and robbed him of a jacket, while another teenager was held a knife in front of him orf.at reported.

Youth crime crisis

Rising juvenile crime is a cause for concern. An example of this recently occurred in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, where several young people brutally attacked a 16-year-old after an argument. The attack, which took place around 7:30 p.m. in Kurt-Weill-Gasse, was carried out by 15 to 20 people. The police were later able to arrest three suspects, including a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 37-year-old woman. Another incident in Schöneberg showed two young people aged 14 and 15 spraying a woman on a bus with irritant gas. This incident occurred after an argument when the woman admonished the youths for their heated behavior. Experts warn that the aggressive treatment of these young perpetrators and their ongoing willingness to use violence raises serious questions about prevention and legal action Berliner Zeitung reported.

A third incident this week involved a failed robbery attempt in Kreuzberg, when three teenagers attempted to rob a souvenir shop but were stopped by the store's closed door. As a result, the police were able to catch two 15- and 16-year-olds who were equipped with pepper spray and masking material. These incidents show a worrying trend in criminal behavior among young people, which can no longer be dismissed as “simple youth sin”.
