Major fire in Weinheim's Miramar: thermal baths completely destroyed!

Weinheim is shaken by a devastating fire in the popular “Miramar” water park. On the night of Monday, December 9, 2024, the salt and crystal thermal baths were completely destroyed, resulting in enormous material damage of over ten million euros, as the operators reported. Fortunately, there were no injuries as there were no more guests in the complex at the time. The affected employees were able to get to safety in time when the fire alarm went off at 11:30 p.m.

Technical defect suspected as cause of fire

The initial investigation points to a technical defect in the maintenance room as the cause of the fire, although according to the police there is no evidence of external influence. This was also confirmed by the managing directors of Miramar, who described the immense damage as “enormous”. The fire was initially reported as a washing machine fire, but quickly spread and led to a partial collapse of the thermal baths. Experts have not yet been able to enter the fire site due to the risk of collapse. The return to normality remains uncertain because it is not yet clear whether the thermal baths will have to be demolished or rebuilt, as the operators explained. The subsequent extinguishing work is also difficult due to the heavy smoke and the unstable structure of the building, which posed major challenges for the fire department's 160 emergency services Heidelberg24 reported.

The operator plans to reopen the thermal baths, but the reopening date remains uncertain. According to information from Stuttgart News Work continues on a solution, but efforts to clean up and authorize access to the fire scene are ongoing. Whether further parts of the leisure pool need to be dismantled or cleaned will only be decided after thorough investigations.
