Fish poaching and vandalism: Police are investigating in Heringen and Kirchheim!

In a shocking incident in Heringen, Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, an illegally set fish trap claimed the life of a strictly protected otter. According to the police, this incident occurred on November 3rd when an alert witness spotted the fish trap in the Werra and alerted the authorities. The subsequent investigations confirmed that the animal died as a result of poaching. The police are now prosecuting the alleged perpetrators of this crime for fish poaching and a violation of the Federal Nature Conservation Act ffh.de reported.

Meanwhile, the investigators in Kirchheim have to come to terms with devastating facts: between November 11th and 25th, six beaver dams were vandalized there. These dams, which serve as breeding and resting places for protected beavers, have been completely removed. In addition, unknown people attempted to remove another dam in the Ibra area between Gershausen and Reimboldshausen in December. Here too, the police are investigating, as any destruction or damage to these habitats is a criminal offence East Hesse News reported.

The police are appealing to the public to provide relevant information in order to bring those responsible for these environmental crimes to justice. Perpetrators who engage in such serious violations of nature and animal protection must be consistently prosecuted in order to prevent future offenses.
