Fake star singer in Vechta: fraud uncovered!

A 39-year-old woman from Vechta, Lower Saxony, is accused of fraud. She reportedly posed as a fake star singer and collected money and candy from doorsteps. The police then initiated criminal proceedings against the woman.

The suspect appeared remorseful and explained that she wanted to return the collected donations and replace the candy. The situation came to light when a 50-year-old woman, who was actually traveling on behalf of a church community, received information about the 39-year-old. She confronted the accused at a chance meeting and then filed a police report.

Police investigations

During the first survey, the 39-year-old said she wanted to donate the money to a local hospital and had not imagined herself or her children as star singers. However, the woman later appeared at a police station on her own and apologized for her behavior.

The 50-year-old from Vechta had already informed the police about the fake star singers on January 4, 2025. The group that accompanied her with children asked for donations and sweets and performed a star singer song. Households on Heinestrasse and Mörickestrasse were affected. As a result, the accused apologized to the police on the evening of the same day. The criminal proceedings initiated for fraud now follow further investigations.
