Drug swamp in Vienna: Six arrests and six kilos of crystal meth seized
In a major success in the fight against drug-related crime, the Vienna Task Force to Combat Street Crime (EGS) carried out several arrests in Vienna at the beginning of May. The investigation was initiated due to suspicious activities in Vienna's 7th district, particularly in Kenyongasse. On May 8, police officers noticed two men, aged 25 and 33, handling a red cooler bag, which led to intense observation.
During the course of this surveillance, the men drove to Steinbauergasse, where a 39-year-old man got into the car. When he left the vehicle again, he was checked and a kilogram of crystal meth was seized. This led to the arrest of the 39-year-old, while the 25-year-old returned to Kenyongasse, leading police to believe that a so-called bunker apartment was located there.
Searches and arrests
The subsequent search of the premises in Kenyongasse confirmed the investigators' suspicions. A total of around five kilograms of crystal meth and cash amounting to 38,745 euros were seized. This represented a significant blow to the drug trade in the region, as a total of six kilograms of crystal meth and over 38,000 euros in cash were seized during the operations. In addition to the 25-year-old, three other men, Serbian nationals between the ages of 25 and 33, were also arrested. These arrests took place as part of a comprehensive investigation targeting an organized drug network.
In addition to the arrests in Kenyongasse, another apartment was located and searched, where 64.1 grams of cocaine were seized. This expands the scope of the investigation, which continues to aim to clarify the background and possible other participants in the drug trade.
Continued investigations
The EGS's investigations are continuing to identify the structures behind the drug trade and any people behind it. Several arrests and a significant discovery of drugs are impressive thanks to the police's ongoing cooperation with the public, who reported suspicious events. The police call on you to continue to be vigilant in the future and to provide relevant information in order to continue to ensure safety in Vienna. Further information can be found at ORF Vienna.
