Drama in Schöneberg: Man sets himself on fire and attacks police officers!

On the shocking night of January 5, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred in Berlin-Schöneberg. A 46-year-old man set himself on fire in his partner's apartment and ran towards the alerted police. The police were alerted at around 12:20 a.m. to calls for help from a 52-year-old woman on Fritz-Reuter-Straße. When the officers arrived on site, the woman opened the door after repeated requests, whereupon the man came out in flames with a lighter in his hand and clothes soaked in accelerant. Before officers could respond, the man pulled on an officer's protective gear, causing his clothing and hair to be damaged by the flames.

The remaining residents of the apartment building were able to be evacuated in time. In a dramatic rescue operation, emergency services were sent back to the apartment, where they found the 46-year-old in a badly burned condition. He received immediate first aid and was then taken to hospital with serious burn injuries. Fortunately, the man's partner and the other residents of the house were uninjured, while three police officers had to be treated for smoke inhalation. A total of six police officers were no longer able to continue their duties after the operation, while a specialist commissioner from Police Directorate 4 took over the investigation into the background to the incident. The incident raises questions as the man's exact motives are still unclear Fireworld.at and t-online.de report.
