In the shocking night of January 5, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred in Berlin-Schöneberg. A 46-year-old man lit in the apartment of his partner and ran towards the alarmed police forces. The police were alerted at around 0:20 a.m. for calls to help from a 52-year-old woman in Fritz-Reuter-Straße. When the officials arrived on site, the woman opened the door after several request, whereupon the man, with a lighter in his hand and with a fire -gun -soaked clothes, stepped out in flames. Before the police were able to react, the man dragged on the protective equipment of an official, causing his clothing and hair to be damaged by the flames.
The remaining residents of the apartment building could be evacuated in good time. He was immediately taken care of and then taken to a hospital with serious fire injuries. Fortunately, the partner of the man and the other house residents were not injured, while three police officers had to be treated due to flue gas poisoning. A total of six police forces were no longer able to continue their service after the operation, while a specialist commissioner of Police Directorate 4 took over the investigation into the background of the incident.
