Bus driver on A61 under drugs: police intervene!
On Friday afternoon, January 12, 2025, an incident occurred on the A61 near Dorsheim, which alerted the police. At around 4:40 p.m., a passenger noticed that the 42-year-old bus driver from the Rhein-Hunsrück district repeatedly left the lane for no apparent reason and left the impression of being tired. The concerned passenger then spoke to the bus driver and informed the police.
The police officers arrived at the shoulder of the highway after the bus driver stopped there. During the check, the police found drug-typical abnormalities as well as a tube of narcotics and various medications on the bus driver. Given the situation, the bus journey was immediately terminated and a new driver was arranged. The bus driver's alleged drug abuse could result in him being prosecuted for dangerous driving and having his driving license revoked.
Drug crime statistics
A comprehensive analysis of drug-related crime in Germany was also carried out. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has defined the fight against internationally organized drug crime as one of its central tasks. The beneficiaries of such crime are often groups of perpetrators who not only violate the narcotics law, but also commit violent crimes. Combating these crimes represents a significant challenge for internal security in Germany and worldwide, as explained in detail on the BKA website. The handling of narcotics is regulated by the Narcotics Act (BtMG), which covers various substances, including opioids, cannabis and synthetic drugs.
The challenges in combating drug-related crime are significant given the increasing availability of drugs and the increase in new psychoactive substances (NPS). These substances mimic the effects of traditional narcotics and are often marketed as “legal highs.” Combating illegal drug trafficking on the Internet also requires highly specialized investigative work to combat the new form of crime that comes with modern technologies. These aspects make it clear that drug policy and the fight against drugs in Germany and internationally continue to represent an urgent challenge.
