Drunk driving: woman endangers pedestrians and is stopped!

On January 10, 2025, in Meiningen, Thuringia, a driver was reported by a witness to be driving erratically on Leipziger Straße. The driver repeatedly drove onto the bike path and crossed into the oncoming lane. She stopped at a green traffic light, but continued driving towards a shopping center when it turned red.

While turning, the driver hit a pedestrian light, backed up and continued driving. Police found the woman in the market parking lot and noticed the smell of alcohol. Due to her symptoms, she had to go to the hospital to have a blood sample taken. Her driver's license has been confiscated and she is awaiting charges.

Legal situation regarding drunk driving

How transparent-beraten.de reported, the penalties for drunk driving are regulated by law in the catalog of fines. With an alcohol content of 1.1 per mille or more, driving under the influence of alcohol is a criminal offense. Possible penalties include imprisonment and fines, loss of driving license and a report.

A zero blood alcohol rule applies to new drivers and people under 21 years of age. The sanctions for novice drivers include, among other things, 1 point, a fine of 250 euros and an extension of the probationary period by 2 years. In the event of repeated violations or an alcohol content of 1.6 per mille or more, a medical-psychological examination (MPU) will be ordered.
