19-year-old races at over 100 km/h – driving license gone immediately!

On May 29, 2025, at around 10:51 a.m., a serious traffic incident occurred on Kärntner Straße (B83) in the direction of Arnoldstein. A 19-year-old woman was recorded driving at an impressive speed of 102 km/h, while in the local area the maximum speed is only 50 km/h. The incident is now causing concern as speeding not only carries legal consequences but also endangers road safety.

The police reacted immediately to the serious speeding and took action. The driver concerned had to temporarily surrender her driving license and was banned from continuing to drive. In addition, a report will be sent to the Villach-Land district administration, which could trigger further legal action, including possible fines or a driving ban. At first glance, it appears that the incident could have serious consequences.

Legal consequences for speeding

As the website ra-rauf.at explains, if you exceed the speed limit significantly, not only can fines be imposed, but your driving license can also be revoked for a certain period of time. In the event of this serious speeding, the 19-year-old could face a fine of 300 to 5,000 euros because she exceeded the permitted speed in the local area by more than 40 km/h. Even if the fine cannot be collected, there could be a substitute prison sentence of up to six weeks.

The regulations on speeding are set out in the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). These state that speeding offenses must be punished within three months, otherwise they expire. Joint liability of at least 20% can also arise in the event of accidents resulting from exceeding the recommended speed. In this context, it is important to note that the type and amount of penalties vary depending on the severity of the violation.

Road safety

To ensure road safety, maximum speeds are of great importance. According to information from stvo.de, the general speed limits in urban areas are set at 50 km/h, while 100 km/h applies to cars and vehicles under 3.5 tons outside of urban areas. In play streets, a walking speed of 7-10 km/h must be observed. These regulations are intended to help minimize the risk of accidents and increase safety for all road users.

In the case of the 19-year-old motorcyclist, it remains to be seen what legal action the Villach-Land district administration will take. Road users should be aware of the responsibilities that come with driving a vehicle and respect the applicable speed limits in order not to endanger themselves or others.
