New elections in Vienna: Criticism of SPÖ and Neos - chaos in sharp times!

The political mood in Vienna is heated: Mayor Michael Ludwig from the SPÖ and Vice Mayor Christoph Return from the Neos have announced the upcoming new elections for April 27, 2025. This decision ensures great resentment in parts of urban politics, especially among the Greens. Judith Pühringer, the chair of the Vienna Greens, leaves no doubt that the current uncertainty in the city is not the right time for new elections. How she puts it, "certainly not what the Viennese just want".

criticism of the Neos

Pühringer sharply criticizes the procedure of the NEOS, because in her opinion, current urban politics in many areas, such as schools and kindergartens, must master great challenges. "There are a lot of construction sites," she explains. The accusation that party tactics are about reason becomes loud: "It crashes, for example, in schools and kindergartens; it is irresponsible now. Is irresponsible." Her direct address to the Neos is particularly remarkable: "The Viennese have the snout full" of the political competition.

At a time when there are many pressing topics on the agenda, the question of the property and the reforms in education policy does not seem to be in the foreground. When Pühringer notes that acts are now actually required, the message is clear: it is demanded that the city and its residents' interests are being worked on and not fishing in an election campaign. These critical words are not only empty slogans, but also reflect the concerns that many Viennese have about the upcoming changes in the political climate. As well as wien.orf.at notes, April 27th is a decisive day for Viennese politics.
