Escalation of violence in Soest: attacks on security forces and passers-by
Things were more than turbulent in Soest last weekend! The police had to respond to two explosive cases in which the potential for aggression and physical violence flared up. A 50-year-old and a 35-year-old were slightly injured in the clashes. Both incidents were characterized by violent behavior and undisguised anger, which posed serious challenges to emergency responders on site.
But what had happened? In the city center of Soest on November 23rd at around 6:48 p.m., a security guard clashed with a 28-year-old Moroccan. The reason: A house ban that was not accepted by the Moroccans ended in a physical argument. The aggressive visitor threw a soda can at the security guard's head and bit his hand! The police intervened, but were unable to calm the 28-year-old. Even in police custody his behavior remained challenging; he insulted the officers and spat at them. The list of legal consequences is long: dangerous bodily harm, insults and physical attacks on law enforcement officers.
Shock in Burghofstrasse
Just one day later, in the early evening of November 24th at 5:45 p.m., another alarming incident occurred on Burghofstrasse. A 57-year-old driver of a Mercedes apparently felt threatened by a 35-year-old pedestrian. When asked to go “into the bush,” the situation escalated dramatically. The driver got out and gave the pedestrian a big punch in the face! Witnesses had a hard time believing what was happening, but they acted quickly and informed the police.
The 57-year-old is now facing charges of assault and insult. His ability to drive is now being tested. The injured 35-year-old Senegalese man had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance because he was so overwhelmed by the attack! Soest appears to have been hit by a wave of aggression this weekend - the police will continue to crack down.
