FPÖ: Stop speculation in social housing – a call for change!
In a sharp attack on the Vienna city government, representatives of the FPÖ criticized the current housing policy and pointed out alleged failures in combating housing speculation. FPÖ building spokesman NAbg. Michael Oberlechner referred to the Buntes Wohnen and Gesfö causes as well as the ongoing opportunities for investors in social housing. He noted that the SPÖ under Mayor Ludwig only took measures after massive pressure from the FPÖ. “Speculation has no place in non-profit housing,” explained Oberlechner, emphasizing that the planned ban on investor apartments in the current government program had failed. Furthermore, investors could purchase cooperative social housing at a social price and then rent them out freely, which, in his opinion, harms the Viennese. This reports APA OTS.
The FPÖ's criticism is supported by the recent indictment against 'EIGENTUM' Wohnungs- undsiedlungsgesellschaft m.b.H. strengthened, which is seen as a signal against speculation in non-profit housing. Philipp Schrangl, also FPÖ building spokesman, expressed the need to combat housing speculation in social housing and announced a parliamentary question. “The FPÖ has done significant educational work here and will continue to be involved,” explained Schrangl, while criticizing the policies of ÖVP Economics Minister Martin Kocher, who has opened social housing to wealthy investors. “If this comes from a minister’s desk, we all have to be vigilant,” warned Schrangl, recalling the controversial nature of the 2022 amendment to the Non-Profit Housing Act, which is considered a source for these developments bauern.fpoe.at.
