Future of work: Change executives - become active now!

In the new episode of the "Peter & Paul" show, Gerhard Pichler, CEO of Business Circle, and Markus Mendel, Managing Director of EHL Investment, discussed the change in the world of work. Paul Leitenmüller, CEO of the Opinion Leaders Network, moderates the conversation that took place in the Audi House of Progress in Vienna. Under the title "Future of Work - Working World", the experts shed light on the profound changes that have increased for about 15 years, above all accelerated by pandemic, and their effects on technological possibilities and the values of the workers: inside

Gerhard Pichler emphasizes that managers have to actively accompany the change in order to remain competitive. This process requires that employees: inside the change process are included. At the same time, he warns that the requirements for real estate must adapt to the changed working world. This is also important from the perspective of Markus Mendel, who indicates the need for a modern job design. An appealing and employee -friendly environment should promote the exchange and cooperation.

technological changes and their effects

A current study by the McKinsey Global Institute from May 2024 predicts that around 30 % of current working hours through technologies, in particular through artificial intelligence (AI), could be automated by 2030. These changes could result in up to 12 million professional changes in Europe, whereby Germany could see up to 3 million changes in jobs, which corresponds to 7 % of the total employment. The use of AI could also increase productivity growth in Europe by up to 3 % per year if 27 % of the activities are automated.

As part of these changes, there are significant differences in the affected areas in Germany. According to the study, around 54 % of the job changes are eliminated to administrative office activities, while 17 % in customer service and sales and 16 % are recorded in production.

urgent need for action

In order to meet these challenges, comprehensive qualification and further training of employees is necessary. A doubling of the change of change by 2030 is considered necessary to implement the positive effects of the technologies.

The labor market shows polarization: low -wage workers have a higher change rate compared to top earners. In Europe, these exchange rates are 3-5 times higher, while they appear 10-14 times more often in the USA. In addition, an increase in demand for technological skills will be forecast by up to 25 % by 2030.

technological developments in the company

artificial intelligence as well as technologies such as IoT and mixed reality are increasingly moving into companies. A survey shows that 35 % of companies already use technologies from Big Data/Data Analytics, while 21 % have implemented IoT technologies. Over 50 % of the respondents expect strong changes in the workplace by Big Data in the next five years, while 48 % have similar expectations regarding IoT.

The greatest potential of the AI lies in the automation of recurring tasks and the targeted filtering of information. Despite the interest in AI, specific applications are often missing, especially in many banks and insurance companies that mainly only use technologies in the field of big data.

Overall, it can be seen that German companies have increased in their digital maturity from 3.28 to 3.96 on a scale of 1 to 7, which underlines the growing importance of digital technologies. However, it remains crucial that managers actively shape the change and their employees: include in this process in order to optimally use the new possibilities.
