Zugspitze summit on migration: criticism of EU policy and abuse of asylum!

Zugspitze, Deutschland - On July 18, 2025, FPÖ security spokesman NABG criticized. Mag. Gernot Darmann sharply the EU migration meeting on the Zugspitze. According to information from Darmann called for a common return offensive to counter illegal immigration and abuse of asylum. In his opinion, those responsible contribute to the current mass immigration to crime, welfare expression and social tensions in Europe. In particular, he criticized ÖVP Interior Minister Karner as a "hardliner without skills".

criticism of the EU Commission

According to Darmann, 2,000 new Syrians have come to Austria since the beginning of the year, despite the announced stop of the family reunification. The EU Commission is criticized by it for its focus on the distribution of migrants instead of preventive measures to avoid migration. He demands a remigration as the main goal of EU migration policy and a radical system change to restore national sovereignty.

At the same time, the EU Parliament has passed a new migration and asylum package to reform asylum procedures in Europe. This package was accepted with 322 to 266 votes and, among other things, provides that EU member states have to redistribute asylum seekers or people with international protection. As part of the reform, the revision of the Dublin regulations for determining the responsible Member State for asylum applications will also be necessary, as on the website of the

stricter rules and new mechanisms

The new legal framework also includes a solidarity mechanism for redistribution of refugees, regulations for the recording of biometric data and clearer deadlines for the processing of asylum applications. Asylum applications from states that are relatively secure are now subject to stricter rules. Refugees with little view of asylum can be deported from border camps, which represents a remarkable tightening of European asylum law.

In 2023, 1.1 million asylum applications were received in the EU, which has been the highest level since 2016. Around 330,000 applications were made in Germany alone. These developments come against the background of a critical attitude of migrant and human rights groups and were explicitly decided to combat right-wing populism in the run-up to the European elections in June 2024, reports the Tagesschau .

The new regulations must now be implemented by the Member States within two years. Practical questions about the implementation, such as locations for asylum centers and the classification of safe third countries, still have to be clarified. These comprehensive changes in migration policy are controversial both among the Member States and in the general public.
