context of the ÖFB cup
The Uniqa ÖFB-Cup, held by the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB), has been held since 1919 and is a knockout competition in which 64 teams take part. The popularity of the Cup has mostly receded behind the Bundesliga since its introduction in the 1950s, but it remains an important part of Austrian football. The WAC can now compete in the European Cup qualification in the coming season, depending on its placement in the Bundesliga, where the club is currently well positioned.
This goes into the history books, as the new title holder of the ÖFB-Cup and as the first club in its club history, which was able to win the trophy (Klick-kaernten reported that ...). The association has the opportunity to even get a double this season, as there is only three points behind the leaders of the Bundesliga championship leader Austria (Kicker reports that ...). The success of the WAC in the ÖFB-Cup consolidates the role of club in Austrian football and in summer offers the chance of European adventure (Wikipedia reports.
