A central theme of the Wigev is the mental health of employees. On May 20, 2025, the program "Psychological first aid" (P.E.H.) started, which is intended to provide support for employees in acute crisis situations. The training as mental first aiders enables colleagues to offer unbureaucratic help and empathetic relief discussions. The aim is to cope with mental acute loads and promote emotional stability. This procedure is supported by information material and the activation of social networks to enable a sustainable return to everyday life, as [HESSGAND.at.at] (https://gesundheitsverbund.at/psychische-erste-hilfe-hilfe-von-kolleginen-bei-baumatending- Eviennes/).

In addition, psychological advice centers are available to employees. Anonymous, low-threshold support indicates the importance of mental health in a work environment stressed by the Covid 19 pandemic.

context of psychological stress in healthcare

The challenges that Covid-19 pandemic brought with it have continued to increase the workload and the psychological requirements for nursing staff. A comprehensive investigation has shown that a variety of emotional and social stress factors have been documented since the beginning of the pandemic. The perception of stress and the increase in burnout, especially among nurses who work in Covid-19 areas, received special attention, such as an analysis on [pmc.ncbi.nih.gov] (https://pmc.nlm.nih.gov/articles/pmc11775038/ illustrated.

The results show that social support and team cohesion are decisive resources in order to counteract the psychological consequences. It is important to pull the teachings out of pandemic and to develop appropriate measures in order to improve working conditions sustainably.
