Vienna Health Association: Record number of patient contacts 2024!
The Vienna Health Association, Austria's leading health service provider, recorded a record number of patients in 2024: 5.2 million outpatient patients and over 243,600 inpatient stays! During a press conference that takes place in the General Directorate in Vienna on February 20, 2025, the WigEV board, led by General Director Evelyn Kölldorfer-Leitgeb, will take a comprehensive balance and explain which progress was made as part of the modernization program. In this context, the focus is also on the medical focus of the past year, which indicate the persistently high demand for health services.
Personnel development in focus
In 2023, the Vienna Health Association has hired 3,171 new employees, while 3,047 left the company, which means a positive balance of 124 new jobs. Various measures are taken to meet the increasing need for skilled workers in the health sector. The Wigev is the largest trainer for health professions in Austria and has 1,900 trainees in nursing and 1,350 training in the doctor. Together with partners such as the FSW and the FH Campus Vienna, the health association is planning to increase the training positions for nursing professions to a total of 4,400 by the end of 2024. The study places for upscale medical-technical services and midwives are also to be increased by 40 % by 2027 in order to avoid future bottlenecks. The average age of the employees is currently 44.4 years, which indicates an urgent need for offspring.
These developments not only illustrate the outstanding role of the Vienna Health Association in the Austrian healthcare system, but also the challenges that are associated with a constantly growing patient and the need to gain and train qualified staff. Further details on the balance sheet and the perspectives will be announced during the press conference on February 20, whereby the communication department to register by email to press@gesundheitenverbund.at asks as noted on the website of the Vienna Health Association.
