Call renewal of the Salvador Allende-Hof: A home for all generations
The Salvador-Allende-Hof, an important residential complex in the Vienna district of Simmering, is being renovated over a large area and is now shining in new splendor. The renovation, which has been promoted in recent years, affects a total of 534 apartments that were built between 1963 and 1968. After a long time, it is finally so far that these important renovation measures are realized. A few days ago, part of the work was completed.
The creation of 64 new attic apartments, which offer an appealing living quality through modern terraces, is particularly worthy of highlighting. In addition, new playgrounds for children and adolescents were installed, from which the future residents of the facility can benefit. District head Thomas Steinhart (SPÖ) was pleased with the development: "From a traditional Simmeringer existence, a sustainable modern home was created for all generations that invites you to linger until old age."
sustainability and accessibility
One of the main goals of this renovation is the improvement of accessibility. To ensure this, 32 new elevator systems were installed, which were integrated into the existing structure in an innovative way. The staircases were then gutted and then rebuilt to make room for the lifts. This is particularly positive, since people with mobility restrictions are easier to get access to their apartments.
In addition, a thermal renovation was carried out, which reduces the heating requirement by an impressive 73 percent. This measure makes an important contribution to climate protection and promotes a sustainable lifestyle of the residents in the facility. The work took place during the ongoing use of the apartments, which meant that the residents could stay in their four walls despite the extensive construction sites.
continuous renovation by 2028
The renovation has not yet been completed. The second part of the work, which also affects the building at Wilhelm-Kress-Platz 29-30, comprises 622 other apartments and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. The city of Vienna is investing a total of 100 million euros in the entire project. Not only new elevators and attic apartments are created, but also additional living space, there are a total of 12,700 square meters.
These measures show how thermal-energetic improvements and careful densification in urban planning can be combined sensibly. Vice Mayor and Councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ) emphasizes the importance of the renovation programs for the Viennese municipal buildings and emphasizes that this creates additional affordable living space.
The project in the Salvador-Allende-Hof is an excellent example of how well thought-out renovations can not only improve the quality of living, but also take an important step towards sustainable and barrier-free living.
