40 years of women*café: a heart for Simmeringer women and families
In October this year, the "Women*Café" celebrated its 40th anniversary in the Simmeringer youth center. This facility, which belongs to the Vienna Youth Center Association, has been an estimated meeting point for women of different ages in the region since its opening. In order to celebrate this special occasion, those responsible had invited to a big celebration that attracted numerous guests.
The anniversary not only brought together current visitors, but also former guests, some of them have been part of the project since the very beginning. Among those present was Manuela Smertnik, the managing director of the Vienna Youth Center Association, who himself worked in the 11th district for many years and got to know the café from the start.

The "Women*Café" has an appealing and colorful program to offer. Various events are organized here, including excursions, workshops, book exchange exchanges and creative handicrafts. There are also regular consultations with experts who offer visitors support in various situations.
The café is particularly family -friendly, since childcare is offered that relieves mothers while they can exchange ideas in the community. Older women also regularly find their way to the café, which promotes holistic networking of all generations. Tuesday is an integral part of their week for many visitors. "I never make up appointments on Tuesdays because I really want to go to the women*Café," says the regular visitor Sylvana. Other women also confirm how important this place has become for them. Elisabeth says: "On Tuesday, when I am in the women*café, my friends and family know that I don't stop because I'm just there." The respective atmosphere, shaped by warmth and empathy, ensures that many women come again and again to exchange ideas and listen to each other.
The "Women*Café" has thus developed into a fixed point of contact, where help is offered in a variety of ways and uncomplicated.
