Pharmacies in sight: burglar gang from Algeria and Morocco

As part of a determination of the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office, it was now possible to clarify a series of burglaries into various business premises that have extended across the region since June 2024. In these crimes, the electrical sliding doors were opened by violence, with cash from the change cash registers primarily. Pharmacies were particularly affected.

The investigative authorities were able to identify five young asylum seekers who are of Algerian and Moroccan origin. They are suspicious of being involved in a total of 19 burglaries. The estimated damage amounts to around 50,000 euros, the value of the prey is around 9,000 euros.

of the 19 burglaries 12 took place in Lower Austria. The crime scenes included several districts: four burglaries were committed in the Amstetten district, followed by three in the Baden district and two in the Tulln district. In addition, further burglaries occurred in the St. Pölten, Mödling and Korneuburg districts. Outside of Lower Austria, there were three further burglaries in Salzburg-Stadt, two in Vienna-Penzing and one in Wels and Innsbruck.

As a result of the investigation, the public prosecutor's office in Wiener Neustadt issued European arrest warrants against the five suspects. So far, two of the young people in Switzerland and one in Germany have been arrested. These were subsequently transferred to Austria. During the interrogations, the accused made comprehensive confessions and were implemented to the Wiener Neustadt judiciary. The other two suspects are currently on the run, with search measures to be both nationally and internationally to take them.
