meaning of journalism
In his speech, Klaus Schwertner, the Caritas director, emphasized the need for independent and critical journalism as the basis for a functioning democracy. "In a time characterized by crises and conflicts, it is important to strengthen journalism that verifies facts and shows lies," said Schwertner. These words were particularly well received because they reflect the current role of the media in an increasingly polarized social landscape.Claudia Süssenbacher, Managing Director of Raiffeisen-Holding Lower Austria, emphasized that the excellent contributions gave people a voice that often remain unheard. Through their work, the journalists show how the light is directed to social grievances and difficult life situations.
The award ceremony also took place in addition to the main prices. Thomas Winkelmüller was recognized for his work "in the spectrum, from the system" in the monthly magazine date, while Andrea Kandioler-Kiml was awarded for several contributions at ZiB Knowledge and ZIB 1. Robert Bogi received the recognition award for his series "Greetings from prison" for Café Lg.
Daniela Kraus, General Secretary of the Press Club Concordia, found in her speech that journalism is under pressure today, but remains essential to inform the public about society as a whole. "He shows us what happens outside of our own bubble," said Kraus and demanded more attention to the importance of journalism.
This award reminds us of how crucial it is to offer social issues a platform and make it visible in society. The efforts of these journalists help promote dialogues and show grievances what is essential for the development of solutions and the strengthening of the community. As reinforcement of the Caritas claim to the new government, the need for a social impact assessment for reform measures was also emphasized. This makes it clear that social issues will continue to remain in the focus of media reporting.
