With vocals to self -confidence: Women's choir in Mumok combines cultures
in the heart of Vienna, in the Mumok, a special musical project takes place: The women's choir offers participants the opportunity not only to expand their vocal skills, but also to strengthen their self -confidence. This project was initiated in 2017 by vocal educator Diana Rasina and diversity expert Ümit Mares-Altinok and moves out of a prior commitment to the AMS, where women were encouraged to raise her voice.
The idea was so well received that the two experts decided to launch the women's choir as part of an EU project from 2020 to 2022. Since then, the group of amateur singers has met twice a month to make music together and exchange ideas across cultural borders.
a multicultural music culture
The choir brings women together for various backgrounds, so that they can sing both Austrian songs and pieces in different languages such as Arabic, Persian and Spanish. Mares-Altinok emphasizes: "It is about finding women closer to each other about music. Those from other countries can get to know Austrian culture and at the same time improve their language skills." The intercultural exchange ensures that the cultures of the participants are also value.
A remarkable aspect of this choir is the use of dialects such as Carinthian, Tyrolean and Styrian to illustrate the diversity of Austrian cultures. This musical diversity promotes the sense of community and appreciation of cultural differences.
According to Rasina, the goal is not only the music itself, but also the personal development of each participant. Many women come hesitantly at first, but over time they grow beyond themselves, maintain their talents and gain self -confidence. "It's nice to see how the women develop. At first they were often unsure, now they are almost a matter of course in Mumok," she says.
concerts and appearances
The women's choir not only has the advantages of the weekly rehearsals, but also the opportunity to present themselves at various appearances. The group performed at the new Vienna Museum in October and is currently preparing a concert in the museum district for December 17th. For this purpose, suitable songs are always selected that match the works on display and are connected to small stories.
women who are interested in becoming part of this inspiring choir are cordially invited. Registration is simply possible by sending an email to kunstvermittlung@mumok.at or contacting the phone number 01/525 00-1313.
