Advent pedestrian zone: Neubaugasse invites you to a stress -free shopping
Vienna new building is transformed into a pedestrian zone this year on the four Advent days. For many, this will be a welcome break from car traffic, because the section of Neubaugasse between Mariahilfer Straße and Westbahnstrasse is closed to vehicles. This change comes into force at a time that has a very special meaning for many Viennese: the advent time, which is often associated with stressful shopping.
On November 30th, December 7th, December 14th and December 21, passers -by can relax from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in a relaxed stroll through the Neubaugasse declared the pedestrian area. District head Markus Reiter emphasizes the advantages that offer the numerous family -run business in the 7th district. "The pedestrian zone gives Neubaugasse the right backdrop to make the shopping experience an unforgettable experience during the advent," explains Reiter.
diverse advent offers
In addition to the quiet stroll, the Viennese is also offered a lot of different activities. From festive Christmas markets to family films in the film house to concerts, such as from the oldest choir in the region, the Vienna Choir, in a local church. Interested parties can find an overview of all events that take place for the whole family.
Another positive aspect of this decision comes from Peter Herzog, board member of the IG of the merchants on the new building, who praises the creation of a safe and quiet environment for all buyers. "The new pedestrian zone creates a real resting pole where people can do Christmas shops undisturbed," says Herzog.
Kurt Wilhelm, chairman of the IG of the merchants on the new building, is also enthusiastic about the new conditions. He thanks the city and the district for administrative support and expresses the desire to also receive financial help for the upcoming blocking measures next year. "The co-financing of the blocking costs for 2025 would be a great gift for us dealers," added Wilhelm.
response to subway construction work
The economic challenges created by the subway construction work in the 7th district are another motivation for the introduction of the pedestrian zone. Markus Reiter notes that the local trade is particularly under pressure in the run-up to Christmas in order to survive compared to online competitors. Together with the city and the IG of the merchants, this initiative was therefore taken to support the business not only in the run -up to Christmas, but also in the long term. "We have to work towards reducing the negative effects of the construction delays on retail," he demands.
It remains to be seen how well these measures are accepted to upgrade the shopping street in Neubaugasse. The reorientation could serve as a model for future events and regular opening times. More information can be found at www.ots.at .
