Vinzirast Meidling opens doors for volunteering: help for homeless people
In Meidlinger Wilhelmstraße 10, the Vinzirast opens its doors on Thursday, December 5, on the occasion of the international day of the volunteer. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyone is invited to visit the emergency sleeping place and take a look at the important work that is done here.
The Vinzirast was founded 20 years ago by the committed Cecily Corti and offers space for 46 beds every day. This important offer of help, which was created not only for homeless, but also for all those who are in need, ensures that everyone who is looking for accommodation finds a "cozy Eckerl". "It doesn't matter whether someone wants to bring a dog with them or want to share a bed as a couple," explained chairwoman Veronika Kerres. "We want our guests to feel comfortable and safe."
urgent need for volunteers
Despite the open doors and the inviting atmosphere, there is a current problem: the Vinzirast is urgently looking for volunteers. These should take over evening or night services in particular, but cooking helpers are also needed. The call is aimed at everyone who wants to help in the community - even small contributions can make a big difference. If you want to help, you can contact 0650/52 41 402.
The service of the Vinzirast offers more than just a sleeping place. The needy can check in daily at 6 p.m. During the day, the accommodation is cleaned and everything necessary is prepared so that guests can feel comfortable. After a warm dinner, shower facilities and access to the library are available, while guests can talk to others. The rest begins at 10 p.m. and the next day begins with a breakfast together at 6.45 a.m. Kerres describes this as part of the routine that is supposed to help the guests back to find everyday life.
Participation in this event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the valuable work of the Vinzirast and possibly become active yourself. "We look forward to many interested visitors - let us help together," says Kerres. More information about upcoming events and the daily work of the Vinzirast are on www.meinbezirk.at to be found.
An additional highlight for visitors could be the opportunity to speak directly to the employees and hear their experiences. The great commitment of the Vinzirast shows in an impressive way how important volunteer work is in our society.
