Emergency numbers on cash register: Vienna fights against violence against women

in Vienna, a strong sign is set as part of the "16 days against violence against women" initiative. From November 25th to December 10th, 2023, an important message will be spread on the Libro and Spar treasury: The printed emergency numbers make it easier for affected women to help help. This measure is intended to draw the public aware of the serious problem of violence against women.

The campaign has a long tradition and has been carried out since 1991. Together with the Libro retail chain and the SPAR supermarket, the city of Vienna actively participates to offer support for women in emergency situations. It is sought that affected women can take advantage of unbureaucratic and quick help without having to search for information for a long time.

The mayor and city councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ) emphasizes the importance of this initiative: "It requires a lot of courage to break away from a violence relationship or talk about sexual assault. But no woman and no girl have to do it alone." The way out of a violent situation is often difficult, and it is crucial that help offers are well known.

Another central part of this initiative is the 24-hour woman's emergency call, which can be reached at any time. This emergency call is anonymous, free of charge and intended for all women aged 14 and over who suffer from violence. For more information, the website www.frauennotruf.wien.at available.

Here are some of the most important emergency numbers:

24-hour woman's call: 01/12 345

24-hour woman's call of the Vienna women's shelters: 05 77 22

In the event of acute violence: contact an emergency call under 133 or 112.
