New Night S-Bahn S80: Improved mobility for Vienna and the surrounding area

New Night S-Bahn S80: Improved mobility for Vienna and the surrounding area

The transport connections in Vienna will be significantly improved from December 15th by the cooperation between the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR), the ÖBB and the City of Vienna. This step is particularly relevant for everyone who rely on the S80 expressway line, since at the weekend they now also run between Vienna Hütteldorf and Vienna As Aspern North at the night. These innovations aim to expand the existing network of night buses and tracks and also offer passengers a better connection to the Viennese night-u-Bahn system.

In addition to the new night connections, two further early trains are introduced on working days between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern North. These measures are intended to benefit from professionals and students in particular by equating the morning traffic. Together with the existing Rex8 and R81 connections, this will guarantee a subway-like frequency on this important route.

overview of the innovations

  • S80 Hütteldorf-Aspern Nord: New night connections with a 30-minute cycle on weekends and before public holidays.
  • improved networking: Better connections to the Nacht-S-Bahn in Vienna Meidling (towards Mödling) and to the night traffic of the Badner Bahn (towards Baden).
  • Two additional early trains: per direction from Monday to Friday in the section between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern North.
  • Optimization of the transport offer: improvements for vocational and school traffic.

Peter Hanke, the Vienna City Councilor of Economics and Public, emphasized: "With this capacity expansion of the S80 we relieve the section section between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern North, which is heavily frequented by passengers." These statements illustrate how important the capacity expansion is with regard to the growing demand for public transport.

Karin Zipperer, spokeswoman for the pre-management, explained: "Thanks to the close cooperation, we can further expand the mobility offer on the most important west-east rail connection in Vienna." This close cooperation enables passengers to benefit from improved connections even in the late evening hours.

Christof Herrmann, regional manager of the ÖBB for the Eastern region, emphasized the importance of the adjustments: "The new early and night connections on the S80 line ensure a safe and relaxed journey from early morning until late at night." The changes are therefore a clear step of Toward of a more user -friendly and more flexible mobility solution in the city.

The S80 serves an important connection between Vienna Hütteldorf and Vienna Aspern North and binds numerous subway lines as well as bus and tram lines. This connection is important not only for people in the adjacent districts, but also for commuters who travel between Vienna and the surrounding regions.

In addition, further improvements are planned for night traffic between Vienna and Lower Austria from September 2025. The pre-planning experts are currently in the process of working out the details in close coordination with the countries of Vienna and Lower Austria in order to continue to optimize mobility in the region in the future.

For a more detailed insight into these changes, residents and commuters can already view the updated timetables in the pre-anachb app and on anachb.vor.at. This shows that the city and its partners are constantly working to modernize the public transport offer and to meet the needs of passengers.
