Naschmarktmuseum shines after renovation: A look at the story
The Naschmarkt Museum in Mariahilf has opened a new era thanks to the support of the market. This charming space, which was once planned as a chapel, now offers a fascinating insight into the history of the Naschmarkt and its versatile treasures. Just a stone's throw away from Schleifmühlgasse, the museum leads its visitors on an interesting journey through time.
The original purpose of the building as a church chapel had never become a reality, since the Rosaliakirche was rebuilt nearby. In 2008, on the initiative of Renate Kaufmann , the then district manager, the Naschmarkt Museum was opened to fulfill the wishes of the market stands and to appreciate the history of the market.
ceremonial opening with prominent guests
On September 30, the solemn reopening took place on the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the market. Andreas Kutheil , director of the market, Markus Rumelhart , the current district leader of Mariahilf, and omar lashin , representative of the Naschmarktandler, jointly ensured the solemn band average.
Thanks to extensive renovation work, the room shines in the new shine. Visitors have the opportunity to admire a variety of historical objects, including Devisalwaagen, an original ice box and one of the oldest beam scales in Vienna from 1890. These exhibits convey an impressive picture of everyday life on the Naschmarkt.
"I am pleased that the Naschmarkt Museum is now under the care of the market office and continues to contribute to the charm of the Naschmarks," said district head Rumelhart. In addition, he commemorated the late curator Angelika Herburger , who had led the museum with a lot of passion for six years.
