Elementary school on the dog storm: green facade for a better climate

In the heart of Margareten, autumn becomes a sign of change. The facade of the elementary school on the dog storm, at the address of Hundsturm 18, will soon shine in a new guise - with a green coat of paint that should provide more nature and a more pleasant climate. Behind this future -oriented project are the ideas of committed citizens who have worked on a flowering magic for the neighborhood in the Vienna Klimateam together with urban experts.

"Green facades are not only beautiful to look at. They offer practical advantages, especially in summer, if they ensure relief and also promote biodiversity," explains Jürgen Czernohorszky, the climate clinic. With a clear view of the future, he emphasizes how important it is that you tackle together in the Vienna Klimateam to find solutions that benefit people.

advantages of the faith greening

A great aspect of green facade in Margaret is the climatic relief. Plants act like natural air conditioning by donating shadows and enabling water evaporation. "In summer, a green building keeps the temperatures pleasantly cool, while in winter it ensures that the warmth remains inside," explains Vice Mayor Christoph Return. This measure could not only reduce heating costs, but also ensure more quality of life in the neighborhood.

The project is not a short -term project, but is equipped with automatic irrigation, which also includes frost sensors. This ensures that the plants receive the necessary care even for cold months. "We show that existing educational institutions can actively contribute to environmental protection," again emphasizes.

The idea behind the green wall design came from a successful dialogue between the city administration and the residents. "The new facade greening is not only ecologically sensible, but also contributes to the beautification of our surroundings," says district manager Silvia Janković. For them, this project is a step in the right direction to make Margareten even more livable.

Roswitha Gutdeutsch-Erert, director of the elementary school, is pleased that the children can experience more green near their school. "It is great that our students grow up with a climate adaptation measure that promotes their awareness of environmental issues," she says full of optimism.

The Viennese climatic team has set itself the goal of actively integrating citizens into urban projects. Interested Viennese can currently contribute their ideas for the districts of Alsergrund, Meidling and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus until October 25th. For details on this hands -on initiative, the climate team's website visits at Klimateam.Gv.at.

These actions show that the city of Vienna is taking new ways to promote sustainable and green developments in its districts, which benefits not only the climate but also the quality of life of everyone. The implementation of the faith greening at the elementary school on the dog storm is a shining example of how citizen engagement and specialist knowledge can go hand in hand to make positive changes.
