Future of e-commerce: FHWN students discover Amazon in Vienna

At Amazon in Vienna, it was shown today that the future of e-commerce is already on the Wieselburg campus. Students of the master's degree in "E-Commerce Management" at the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences visited the distribution center in Vienna-Liesing. This excursion is part of the cooperation between Amazon and the University of Applied Sciences, which is intended to offer the students practical insights into the logistics and operating processes of the company.

Over 1,500 Austrian and medium-sized companies (SMEs) that use the shipping by Amazon benefit from these processes. Florian Brezina, site manager of the distribution center in Vienna-Liesing, emphasized how important the cooperation between the more than 120 employees and the local delivery partners is in order to deliver the Packerl on time and reliably.

The event offers students an excellent way to interact directly with experts from the industry and experience their experience and knowledge up close. Rainer Neuwirth, Head of the Master's course of e-commerce, emphasized how important such excursions are to link the theoretical foundations of e-commerce with real knowledge.

The students had the opportunity to learn how many companies from Lower Austria successfully pass their products through Amazon. In 2023, over 350 KMUs from the region, including sustainable brands and start-ups, recorded impressive sales figures. For example, Christoph Sturmlechner, one of the founders of Yosana, reported on the situation of his company, which already generated 10,000 euros in sales in the first two months after entering Amazon.

It should be emphasized that over 2,500 SMEs in Austria, including more than 70 million euros of export sales in 2023, use the platform to expand their brands internationally. Many of these companies sold over two million products in 2023, which is important for both the growth of the brands and the creation of new jobs.

The courses are supplemented by the free e-learning portal "Quickstart Online", which Amazon initiated together with partners such as the Austria Chamber of Commerce. Here, entrepreneurs can receive valuable information and training on e-commerce issues, from building up their own web shop to the effective use of marketplaces.

The cooperation between Amazon and the educational institutions such as the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences is crucial for this combination of theory and practice. It not only offers the students valuable insights, but also the participating companies a platform to expand their knowledge and to drive their products effectively.
