Tunnel construction in Vienna: Bacherplatz will be the next U2 stop

In the depths of the Viennese underground, the tunnel template machine (TVM) has made "Debohra" significant progress. With the successful breakthrough in the first shaft of the U2 building in the fifth district, the project, which is carried out as part of the subway expansion, will continue to progress.

"Debohra" has removed an impressive amount of earth material since the beginning of her work. A total of 17,800 tons have been removed, which corresponds to the weight of the Danube Tower. This enormous amount of excavation is derived via a central system at the shaft of the Matzleinsdorfer Platz, which significantly minimizes the shocks and disorders in the city. Thanks to this underground construction, around 20,000 truck trips and 75 tons of CO₂ emissions are saved, which benefits both the environment and the residents.

Next station: Bacherplatz

The next goal of the TVM is the station shaft on the U2 Reinprechtsdorfer Straße, which is located near Bacherplatz. These extensions are not only important for the connection of the city, but also for the improvement of local public transport. After completing the work, "Debohra" will complete two new U2 extension tubes that offer innovative connections to four important stations: U2XS Matzleinsdorfer Platz, U2 Reinprechtsdorfer Straße, U2xu4 Pilgramgasse and U2xu3 NeubaGasse.

This development is another step towards a modern and more efficient transport infrastructure in Vienna. The subway extensions will benefit many people and help to keep the city worth living.

If you look at the progress of this project, it becomes clear how important the expansion of public transport for the Vienna Metropolitan Region is. The fact that the excavation is removed so effectively ensures that the effects on city life are limited to a minimum. In this context, the saving of CO₂ emissions is a little-regarded but important advantage of the underground construction that contributes to sustainability.
