Police arrest British fraud couple A1: Victims wanted!

In the Melk district, police have caught a British couple who are accused of being con artists who faked financial hardship throughout Austria. The two, who were traveling in a gray limousine with British license plates, were caught by officers last week at the A1 Ybbs service station.

The 29-year-old man was transferred to the Vienna-Josefstadt prison, while his wife, also 29, received a report. Police investigations have revealed that between the beginning of September and their arrest they committed at least six frauds, in which they defrauded victims of a total of more than 6,100 euros.

Modus operandi of the fraudsters

The fraudsters presented themselves as needy and tricked their victims into cash between 500 and 1,500 euros. However, promises to repay the money in the form of remittances were not kept, leading to disappointment and financial loss for victims.

The Lower Austrian executive has called on the population to come forward if they have had similar experiences. The St. Pölten Foreign and Border Police Police Station is available on 059133-30-4906. Extensive inquiries into further fraud are currently underway as police attempt to uncover the full extent of the fraud.

This incident highlights the danger posed by organized con artists, particularly along busy roads and rest areas. Victims and witnesses are urged to provide information to prevent future scams and hold perpetrators accountable.
