In Hietzing, a new residential project is realized on the site of a former supermarket. The construction of 62 municipal apartments on Montecuccoliplatz is now going into the next phase because the allocation of the apartments begins. The first residents can move into their new four walls in spring 2025. The already sealed area of the former target point supermarket is used sustainably without installing additional areas. This is a step to create more affordable living space in the attractive Hietzinger situation.

The new apartments are designed so that they meet modern needs. They range from one to two-room apartments to family apartments. When planning, special emphasis was placed on energy efficiency. All apartments have a terrace or loggia and offer amenities such as a roof garden and an inner courtyard with playground for the community. These options should promote the cooperation in the living environment.

consideration for the environment and neighborhood

The construction is based on a low -energy standard that relies on thermal insulation, district heating and photovoltaics. The deputy district chairman Marcel Höckner (SPÖ) also emphasizes that through this construction, the living space meets the living space environmentally friendly and at the same time meets the needs of the residents, since the construction takes into account the surrounding buildings. The courtyard will not only be available to the future residents of the new building, but also the residents of the adjacent community building. This measure supports the neighborhood together and ensures a positive living atmosphere.

It was originally intended to locate a supermarket on the ground floor of the new building in order to offer residents a new local supplier. This was a direct answer to the residents' desire for better shopping in the district, as it was said in an earlier press release from Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaal. But the search for a suitable dealer is more difficult than expected. An existing preliminary contract with a retail chain is no longer relevant. According to Robert Strehn from the Vienna Community Development Development Society (Wigeba), many large retail chains have canceled for economic reasons. Nevertheless, the settlement of a supplier remains a high priority for the city.

The construction of the new community building at this point could serve as a prime example of future urban planning projects, in which old areas are used sensibly and at the same time creating new living opportunities. Thanks to the future -oriented building and taking into account the environment, this living space will present itself as a valuable enrichment for Hietzing, which could also promote the development of the quarter. In view of the current challenges in the housing market, this is a positive step to bring a breath of fresh air to the living space situation.
