Leaving in Hernals: opportunities and challenges for entrepreneurs
In the past few months, a lot has happened in terms of the empty bars. On a walk through the district, it quickly becomes clear that many shops are provided with "closed" or "for sale" signs. This phenomenon requires a more precise examination, which is why the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WKW) and district manager Peter Jagsch (SPÖ) have their say.
The situation is not unknown. Although some of the signs mentioned have become commonplace in Hernals, the WKW assures that a certain vacancy in the economy is normal. Catherine Michel, the WKW press spokeswoman, explains that the economy is constantly changing and there will always be new business ideas. This is part of the dynamic economic events.
new subway expansion as an obstacle?
A particularly hot topic is the planned expansion of the subway. The WKW warns that it could deter potential entrepreneurs before it is put into operation. At the moment, Hernals recorded around 14 empty bars in its statistics, especially on Hernalser Hauptstraße. However, the district leadership has determined that the actual number could be higher, since many shops with existing rental contracts or upcoming renovations are actually not available.
District head Jagsch believes in the importance of the dialogue with owners of empty objects. Despite his efforts to have talks with homeowners in order to move them to rent their restaurants, they often came across deaf ears. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic and emphasized that close cooperation with the Vienna Business Agency is sought in order to create positive incentives to reduce the vacancies.
positive things despite challenges
In the middle of the challenges, however, there are also gratifying news. Despite the difficulties, new ideas and concepts are created. Facilities such as the Ann’s Café in Hormayrgasse and miniMotion in Rötzergasse show that the district can also bloom. These new offers are signs that not every business has to be closed and fresh impulses can be carried into the district. In summary, it remains to be seen whether Hernals will really get a thrust through the subway expansion, which makes the district interesting for new entrepreneurs. Until then, the challenge of continuing to observe the existing vacancies and promote the positive development strand. For more information on this topic and a deeper view of the vacancies in Hernals, see the current reporting on www.meinbezirk.at .
