Anniversary of the café journey through time: help and community for those affected by dementia
Ten years ago, the Café journey through time was opened by Caritas Vienna, and since then it has developed into a significant range of support for people with dementia and their relatives. It takes place every two weeks in the St. Magdalena house at Dornbacher Strasse 32, where visitors gather in a cup of coffee in a cozy atmosphere. Not only is enjoyed here, but also actively communicated and shared."It's not just about coffee and cake," explains Norbert Partl, head of the project and expert in dementia. The café is designed to offer the members of people with dementia a protected space. Here you can exchange ideas about your experiences and find support, especially considering the challenges associated with the disease. If childcare options are often difficult, it can often be difficult to cope with everyday life.
popularity and commitment
The Café Time Travel is not just a social meeting point; It has proven itself as an important point of contact. In recent years, numerous partnerships with various organizations, communities and individuals have been closed in order to continuously expand the offer. Caritas director Klaus Schwertner emphasizes that over 1,000 visitors have come in one of the 21 cafés in various regions, including Vienna and Lower Austria.
With events that are intended for both people with dementia and their relatives, an appreciative atmosphere is created. While those affected can take part in a varied program, the relatives have the opportunity to talk about their worries and challenges in protected round.
The café takes place every two weeks at 3:30 p.m. in the St. Magdalena house. A contribution of 15 euros per person is requested for participation, with trial visits free. Registration can be made by phone or email. Caritas' commitment shows how important such offers are in order to take into account the needs of people with dementia and their relatives and to improve their quality of life.
