Youth bands are looting Vienna-Floridsdorf: boredom as a motivation
In the night of October 27, five young people in Vienna-Floridsdorf caused a stir when they went on a burglary tour. Motivated by boredom and financial emergency, they committed a total of 57 attempts to break in, which alerted the local police department. According to police spokesman Markus Dittrich, four of those involved have now been identified by the Messerer investigative group of the State Criminal Police Office. It is particularly striking that three of the accused are still without punishment.
During their nightly forays, which they led on via Prager Straße, Brünner Straße, Jedleseer Straße and Floridsdorfer Hauptstraße, among other things, the youngsters hit windows and shops with a emergency hammer. They stole objects that seemed valuable to them. Unfortunately, it remained in 28 cases when trying, which means that the crime was not completed. Nevertheless, the young people caused an immense damage that added up to over 63,000 euros. Another worrying detail is that they even managed to steal a car and damage it while driving.
Investigations and arrests
The same evening when the series of burglary took place, the police managed to arrest a 16-year-old suspect. The young man decided not to make any statements on his lawyer advice and was taken to a prison. In the course of further investigations, the younger members of the group, a 12-year-old and two 13-year-olds, were also discovered. These stood the allegations and stated as a motive that boredom and lack of money were based on their criminal decision. An even unknown fifth party remains on the run, and the police are looking intensively after him.
The actions of the child and youth course raise some questions. How could such a dangerous situation come from youthful boredom? The police and local authorities are now faced with the challenge of illuminating the background and social factors that could lead to such behavior.
