Floridsdorf celebrates: cultural highlights in November in the district museum
A varied program of eleven events will be offered in November in the Floridsdorf District Museum, which is located at Prager Straße 33. One of the central events is the opening of the special exhibition “Floridsdorf – 120 years of Vienna’s 21st district”, which will be ceremonially opened on Sunday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m. by district leader Georg Papai. As museum director Ferdinand Lesmeister explains, this exhibition will impressively document the history of the district on 20 panels from the creation of Floridsdorf in 1786 to its incorporation into Vienna in 1904.
November 10th will also include other interesting offers. At the same time as the opening ceremony, visitors can experience the fascinating details about Floridsdorf's historical development. The exhibition is expected to be on display until the end of November 2025 and is accessible to anyone interested at low cost. Cultural highlights
Another highlight is “Beethoven Day”, which takes place on Sunday, November 24th, in the district museum. From 4:15 p.m., music expert Eva Krapf will give a lecture on “Beethoven and Countess Erdödy in Jedlesee”. Following this lecture, a guided tour is offered that introduces visitors to memorabilia from Beethoven's time. These exhibits shed light on the connection between the famous composer and the Countess.
On the same day, a “participatory concert” will be held for children aged three and over, presented by the cultural association “grossundklein”. Under the title “Interesting and curiosities about Beethoven and his work”, a colorful program awaits young visitors with the sounds of classical melodies and exciting stories. The price of entry is 13 euros per person.
Other events include an interactive hands-on concert for children on November 9th, under the motto “Classic Cool!” deals with the topic “Sun, Moon and Stars”. Tickets for this also cost 13 euros. That same evening, guitarist David Strbac will perform in a concert of classical guitar pieces at 7 p.m., with generous donations from listeners greatly appreciated.
Diverse musical performances
The Viennese instrumental soloists will perform works by many composers, including Weber and Schubert, on November 11th. Tickets for this are available at the box office for 25 euros. On November 16th, the “Transdanube” concert series under the title “Schumann & Co III.” Works by Schumann, Mozart and Schubert, which is sure to attract a large audience.
In addition, on November 17th, visitors can expect a cultural evening around the 120th anniversary of the district with the title “I am in Floridsdorf daham”. Songs and texts from and about Floridsdorf are presented, and entry is free. Another highlight will take place on November 23rd, when pieces from the opera “Hansel and Gretel” will be performed in the museum’s ballroom. Visitors will be enchanted by the “fairytale-like” songs of the “Imaginary Opera Ensemble”.
The month ends with a chamber music concert on November 30th, at which Konstantin Weitz (violin) and Kaori Saeki (piano) present works by Mozart and Bartok. The Beethoven Association is hoping for fixed admission donations of 15 euros.
