Just in time for Christmas: Christkindl post office opens again in Steyr

Every year at Christmas time, the tranquil Christkindl in Steyr turns into a center of festive post -activities. This year, the most famous post office in Austria, the Christmas post office Christkindl, opened its doors again on November 29. This happens for the 75th time, and the traditional event attracts numerous visitors who want to have their Christmas mail provided with the coveted special stamp.

The ceremonial opening was accompanied by a number of prominent personalities, including Thomas Stelzer, the governor of Upper Austria, and Johann Hintermaier, the Bishop Vicar for Education, Art and Culture of the Diocese of Linz. Walter Oblin, the general director of Österreichische Post AG, was also present. An enchanting children's choir of the Christkindl elementary school also provided a contemplative pre -Christmas mood.

tradition and special features of the post office

In the Christkindl post office, letters from all over the world have been accepted since 1950. The Christmas special stamp is incredibly popular, which gives the letters a very special flair. But there is also a solution for those who cannot travel personally: By using an additional brand "About Postam. Christkindl", the letters can be directed directly to the post office, where they are also stamped. This can be done very easily by gluing the additional brand onto the already franked Christmas mail and handed over to a postal switch.

Another highlight of the Christmas post office is the opportunity for children from all over the world to address their wishes directly to the "Christkindl". These letters are answered in the special post office, whereby letters from abroad need an international response certificate. In this way, tradition remains alive and the anticipation for the festival is encouraged.

This year there are also four new Christmas brief brands that are put into circulation with over 2.5 million copies. These stamps are characterized by their artistic motifs and are particularly popular with collectors. For example, a stamp shows a Christmas tree that from the words of the song "Silent Night! Holy Night!" is designed while another presents the figurative representation of a historical puppet show.
