The city theater in Walfischgasse, which has remained unused for many years, gets a new coat of paint. The prominent group of artists around André Heller, Ursula Strauss and Ernst Molden has taken over the management of the theater and is planning a reopening in March 2025. We want to dig it in it." In the program, Münchhausen von Schubert, pieces by Johann Strauss and Léhar as well as Wienerlieder by artists such as Arik Brauer and Falco are intended.
The cooperation with the Mummenschatz pantomime group, which will ensure visual accents. For Heller and his colleagues it is important to create a "small but very fine" staging that is unique and inspires the audience.
The city theater in Walfischgasse is called the optimal event location, since it is only a short walk from the State Opera and offers space for 271 spectators. There are also additional rooms that can be used for various events.
Ursula Strauss brings her view of the Viennese song and reaffirms its importance: "It is an expression of the Viennese soul, humorous, melancholic, and of course a little bad." She sees the new project as a way to create a place that connects the community and promotes understanding of each other.
The musical direction is in the hands of Peter Havlicek, and the musicians of the new Wiener Concert Schrammel will accompany the performances. The reopening of the city theater is expected to take place on March 14, 2025 and promises to become an important cultural event for the Wiener Bühne.
