New school in favorites: Annainians defend themselves against blueprints
In the Otto Probst settlement in favorites, there is an exciting project: the construction of a new elementary school for up to 500 students. This could significantly change the educational landscape of the environment, but not everyone sees the plans positively.
The resident Susanne Lutter has expressed concerns who, according to ORF Vienna were mentioned in a report. She fears that the green environment could suffer greatly from the new building. In addition, the planned school in Neilreichgasse 126 could not only take up the place, but also disrupt the quiet living conditions. She judges the expected increase in traffic, which could arise from the school children and their parents.
Details on the new educational institution
The planned elementary school is to include a total of 17 classrooms and operated all day. The official groundbreaking is scheduled for November 2027. District chief Marcus Franz (SPÖ) sees the location as ideal. In its view, the school could make an important contribution to the infrastructure of the flourishing district. "From Laxenburger Straße to Neilreichgasse, new apartments will be built with a kindergarten in the future," he explains. This would offer the settlement an additional contact point for families.
At the same time, the redesign of the Tesarekplatz in the settlement is also underway. The project is part of an initiative that aims to improve public space and increase the quality of life in the Grätzl. The most common users in the square are the residents of the surrounding area who hope for an upgrading of their neighborhood.
While the planning of the new school progresses, it remains open how the residents will react to the developments. As an alternative, Susanne Lutter and her colleagues want a container school in order not to endanger the existing green areas and the calm in the neighborhood. The dialogue between residents and urban planners could be crucial for the future development of the Otto Probst settlement.
The Situation once again shows how important it is to hear the voices of the residents in large construction projects and to take possible concerns seriously. It remains to be seen whether and how the city administration takes these concerns into account.
