Knife attack in Favoriten: Young people attack passers-by at Reumannplatz

On Tuesday evening, around 5:15 p.m., there was an incident at Reumannplatz in Vienna-Favoriten in which a group of young people attacked passers-by. The situation escalated when members of the youth gang apparently molested a girl. This behavior led to a request from several passers-by to put a stop to this activity.

The young people, who later masked themselves, responded by attacking those shouting. Four people suffered injuries in this altercation, which fortunately were not serious. According to reports, the alleged ringleader, a 17-year-old Syrian citizen, also attacked with a knife, but luckily failed.

Arrests and investigations

The police were able to quickly arrest the 17-year-old because he was identified by several witnesses who said that he attacked his opponents with a knife in his hand during the incident. Despite these statements, the other members of the youth gang initially managed to escape. The search for them was initially unsuccessful.

The arrested youth was held in police custody. The knife used to carry out the attack has not yet been found. Police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger commented on the incidents and concluded that the attackers were possibly coordinated. It remains to be seen how the investigation will develop and whether the main perpetrator's accomplices can soon be identified. Further details about this incident are still sparse, however reports www.vol.at that the police are actively looking for the others involved.
