Two hotels in Vienna: Hilton brings a new Spark concept to Austria

The Hilton Hotels have taken a new step in the Austrian hotel industry by signing two hotels for conversion to Spark Premium Economy brand with Verkehrbuero Hospitality. These houses, which are currently operating under the Bassena brand, are expected to be reopened as Spark by Hilton in the course of 2024. One of the hotels, Spark by Hilton Vienna Donaustadt, offers 198 rooms, while the larger Spark by Hilton Vienna Messe comes with 243 rooms.

The Bassena brand, which was launched in 2020, has only produced these two hotels so far. Now Hilton will bring in his expertise to support these locations on their way to the new brand. CEO Martin Winkler joyfully commented on the collaboration and emphasized that this partnership is an important milestone for Verkehrbuero Hospitality. Winkler said: "This collaboration is incredibly exciting for all of us and we are looking forward to the opening of the two hotels."

Hilton's new partner in Austria

Verkehrbuero Hospitality has a total of 28 accommodation opportunities in Austria and a hotel in Slovenia. In Vienna in particular, the company is very strongly positioned, with a total of 22 locations, which also include 15 Austria Trend Hotels and a Radisson Blu in Salzburg. The group also offers two campsites, a hostel near Vienna and an event management company called Palais Events.

The conversion of the two hotels is part of a wider plan from Hilton to gain a foothold in Europe. While the Spark brand has its roots in the USA, it is increasingly being expanded internationally. Already in the United Kingdom and Germany there are first hotel broadcasts on the Spark brand, and also in the Canadian market with the planned opening of Spark Toronto in September 2024 is set.

a step into a new market segment

With the introduction of Spark, Hilton enters a market segment that is geared towards price ranges that are below the existing brands. This decision helps the company to address younger guests and to win them as members of the Hilton Honor's loyalty program. From the beginning, the brand was designed so that it facilitates hotel owners to convert their properties into the Hilton system. Through flexible brand standards and inexpensive processes, owners can quickly benefit from investing in the renovation.

Hilton has also announced that this contract may be part of a more comprehensive agreement with Verkehrbuero Hospitality. This suggests that there may be further conversions of hotels to Hilton brands in the future. This development is a strong signal for Hilton's commitment to expand its brand internationally and to position itself in new markets.
