Hope and community: Diakonie hands over Advent wreath in the town hall

On Monday, November 18, the Vienna town hall experienced a festive moment: Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) presented its traditional Advent wreath. This special wreath was designed by pupils of the inclusive Fit School (IFIT) from Leopoldstadt and this year has 24 candles, red and white, which symbolize the days in Advent. It is a sign of hope and community and marks the close connection between the city of Vienna and Diakonie.

The handover took place in the red salon of the town hall and was led by the diaconal director Maria Katharina Moser. Mayor Ludwig recognized the important role of the diakonia as a long -time partner of the city and emphasized its important work. "Founded exactly 150 years ago, the Diakonie has repeatedly found answers to the challenges of time," he said. This appreciation not only applies to the past, but also the current social issues that concern society.

long -term partnership

The rich history of the diakonia, which granted relevant support in various epochs, was again highlighted by Ludwig. He expressed his gratitude for solidarity and humanity, which embodies the diakonia, and emphasized the important role that the cooperation between the city and the organization plays. "The city of Vienna is proud to have a strong partner as strong as the Diakonie at her side," said Ludwig.

After the ceremonial handover, the Advent wreath on the Vienna Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz will be exhibited. There, visitors have the opportunity not only to admire the wreath, but also to learn more about the history of this tradition. Diakonie has been committed to more justice in society for a century and a half and is a central instance in the social service of the Evangelical Church.

It is particularly worth mentioning that in addition to Moser, other important representatives of the Diakonie were also present, including the managing directors Stefan Marchewa and Wilhelm Raber and the rector of Diakonie a world, Wolfgang Ernst. They also expressed thanks to the city of Vienna and emphasized the importance of reliable partnerships: "The Advent wreath is not only a sign of hope, but also an expression of gratitude for the support of the diakonia." Musical contributions from two students from the Johann Sebastian Bach music school framed the ceremony and gave it a festive framework.

This exciting tradition goes far beyond the mere handing of a wreath. It is part of the joint commitment for a better future and an eloquent memory of the values for which Diakonie and the City of Vienna stand. Further information about how this tradition embodies the work of the diakonia can be read in various reports, as the article on www.meinbeinbezirk.at shows.
