Vienna builds new bicycle road: 1 kilometer security for cyclists in favorites!
On March 26, 2025,Vienna set the course for sustainable mobility. In the current municipal council meeting, a new 1 km bicycle road in favorites was decided, which opens up the area on the Ostbahn via Battiggasse to Donabaumgasse. This measure is part of the city's comprehensive bicycle traffic strategy, which has already led to an implementation of 71 km new cycle paths since 2021. The focus on safe and future -oriented mobility should offer both cyclists security and improve the microclimate in urban rooms. According to Oots.at, an investment of around 1.6 million euros required, of which 303,000 euros are scheduled in 2025 and 1.29 million euros in 2026.
The new construction of the bicycle road is accompanied by the redesign of the tangent park, which is now available as a 60,000 square meter leisure area. Here you will find not only green and open spaces, but also sports offers and water areas that expand the leisure activities. As part of this redesign, 375 new trees as well as almost 2,800 shrubs and forest plants were planted, and 5,300 square meters of new forest space were created, which combines existing forest. The landscape will also enrich the creation of additional green areas along the route.

In connection with the bike path offensive 2025, numerous new cycle paths are planned and implemented. Particularly noteworthy are two directional cycle paths, which are created in the central districts of Vienna. In the 1st district, for example, a bike connection from the Salztor Bridge to the Marienbrücke is realized. In addition, districts 2, 3, 4, 10 and other new cycling infrastructures are intended in the form of bicycle streets and bike paths. The planned and implemented measures to promote cycling should not only improve mobility in the city, but also make a strong contribution to reducing motorized private transport. The expansion of the bike paths is still seen as an important step towards more environmentally friendly urban development.
