Fight against violence: Free events on the Alsergrund for women's rights

Violence against women remains an urgent problem in our society. In the Alsergrund district, various events are made aware of this topic in order to offer support for affected women and to point out their rights.

As part of the international campaign "16 days against violence against women", which will take place this year for the 33rd time, numerous actions will take place in Vienna from November 25 to December 10. The campaign aims to draw attention to the various forms of violence against women and to show their extensive effects on society.

information and discussion

The first event on Alsergrund is scheduled for November 28th at 5 p.m. in the district policy representation at Währinger Straße 43. Here, topics such as physical self -determination, gender medicine and women's rights are discussed. Experts such as the gynecologist Mirijam Hall from "#Austrian principle" and Alicja świtoń, managing director of the association "Autonomous Austrian women's shelters" (AÖF), will take part in this podium. The event is moderated by Anna Ennemoser, the curator of "Frau* creates space". A central topic is the right to abortions without punishment.

In addition to discussion, there will also be an information table and a book display where more information is provided. Interested parties are invited to register at 01/400 00 91 10 or by email to post@bv09.wien.gv.at.

Another important initiative takes place on December 5 and offers a civil courage workshop that begins at 4 p.m. Here participants are informed about ways how they can defend themselves against violence and crossing border, be it in public space or in private spaces. Registration takes place online via MA 57 - Frauenervice Vienna at www.ticket.wien.gv.at. This workshop is also free.

Support for affected women

Various offers of help are available for women and girls who are affected by violence. A 24-hour women's emergency call can be reached on 01/12 345. The Viennese women's shelters also offer an emergency call under 05 77 22. If there is a risk of acute danger, the police call 133 or 112 should be contacted. Deaf and hearing impaired people can request help via SMS to 0800/133 133.

The initiative and the planned events not only want to inform, but also show options for action and encourage women to actively act against violence.
