Alsergrund chooses: SPÖ triumphs, green experience tart setback
The National Council election left its mark on Alsergrund. Here the voters were able to make a clear decision that the political landscape in the district significantly influenced. While the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) had some difficulties nationwide and took third place, she experienced a remarkable promotion in Alsergrund and secured 28.82 percent of the vote. This is an increase of almost nine percent compared to the last election.
The Freedom Party (FPÖ), which won at the federal level, was only in second place in Vienna, even though it also recorded strong gains. The Greens met it less well in the Alsergrund: their share of the vote fell to 18.5 percent, which corresponds to a decline of over 13 percentage points. The People's Party also experienced a decline and currently only comes to 17.35 percent.
different perspectives
The reactions of the different parties could not be more different. While the SPÖ is enthusiastic about its own success and praises the topics attributed to them such as sustainable mobility and women's rights, the Greens see no connection between their work and the result. Josefa Molitor-Ruckenbauer, deputy district leader of the Greens, emphasizes that the dampening effect of the nationwide mood of mood cannot be ignored. Regardless of the election results, she believes in the possibility of a positive turn in future city elections.
positive prospects for the Neos
Another gratifying result came from the NEOs, which were able to increase 2.35 percentage points in the district, and now come to 16.51 percent. District spokesman Rudolf Mayrhofer-Grünbühel is optimistic and emphasized that the focus of the NEOS was well received on positive ideas and beliefs in voting. They hope that the negative feelings against the FPÖ could mobilize many people and expand the voter base.
The upcoming elections in Vienna in 2024 also throw their shadows ahead, and the NEOS are willing to continue to pursue their strategy in order to represent the interests of the citizens and to gain new members.
