Süßenbrunner Platz: Green piece of jewelry is created - starting construction tomorrow!
On July 13, 2025, the starting signal for the redesign of the Süßenbrunner Square in the Donaustadt was given. With the motto "Get out of the asphalt", a parking space is converted into a green stay oasis on over 2,000 m². The goal is to create a climate -like Grätzl that not only increases the quality of stay, but also improves the microclimate. 24 new trees are planted as part of the project and the concrete surface is sealed over a large area.
The planned redesign comprises around 1,300 m² of new green areas with flowering perennial beds and easy -care lawns. Five pergolas will shade the space, while around 16 seating furniture enables residents and visitors to relax. A central water feature that is reminiscent of the former Rossschwemme is also installed. In order to improve accessibility, the sidewalks and lanes are renewed and the road drainage is revised. Asphalt areas give way to a new paving and barrier -free bus stops are created.
Extensive measures to promote quality of life
Total "Raus out of the asphalt" 344 projects are implemented in 23 Viennese districts. The redesign of the Süßenbrunner Platz should be completed by the end of November 2025, as part of a comprehensive plan that includes 3,316 new trees, 2,745 seating and almost 2,000 m² of water feature. These initiatives aim to improve the microclimate and significantly increase the quality of life in the districts. In particular, the urban greening plays a key role by improving air quality, filing pollutants and alleviating the urban heating effect.
The advantages of the greening are diverse. Plants not only take over the function of absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, but they also contribute to reducing fine dust and other air pollutants. Studies show that urban green spaces not only increase mental well -being, but also promote social interactions and serve as a retreat. These factors make green areas a central part of sustainable urban development.
sustainability and citizen participation
The project in the Donaustadt is part of a larger initiative based on the super blocks in Barcelona. New green rooms are also being built in favorites, including 62 new trees and 94 green spaces. Here, citizen participation is actively promoted in order to include the residents in the planning and design of their living environment. Feedback of the population after test phases flow into further planning, which is considered essential for the success of the projects.
Urban greenery therefore faces the challenge of ensuring long -term sustainability and at the same time livening up the needs of the population. Innovative approaches such as roof gardens and vertical farming could also contribute to increasing biodiversity and thus further improve the quality of life for all city dwellers.

Overall, it can be said that the implementation of these urban projects has a significant impact on the quality of life of the Viennese population and examples of successful urban greening show what urban development can also look without asphalt.
