Schönberg exhibition in Vienna: Masterpieces combined for the first time!

In the exciting anniversary year 2024, which celebrated the 150th birthday of the legendary composer Arnold Schönberg, there is a sensational donation: The Schönberg family has decided to hand over all paintings and drawings of their ancestors to the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna. This impressive collection, which has been a loan in the center since 1998, comprises 227 works with an estimated value of around 27 million euros. Mayor Michael Ludwig and City Councilor Veronica Kaup-Hasler recognized the gift as a significant contribution to the artistic and cultural identity of Vienna, because Schönberg's heir is inextricably linked to the city, which was both shaped and influenced by him, as the reports of Presse Vienna show.

The upcoming exhibition entitled "Painted Music. Atelier visit to Arnold Schönberg", which will be seen from March 11, 2025, promises a fascinating insight into the master's artistic work. Curator Therese Muxeneder describes the exhibition as the most "Viennese", since most of the works presented were created in the Danube ETROPOLE between 1906 and 1911. 26 paintings and 25 graphics are presented as part of this exhibition without frame. It is emphasized that Schönberg's painting began as a hobby and should not be interpreted as outstanding, but his landscape paintings and cartoon -like self -portraits are of great historical importance, as the Kleine Zeitung reports.

In the context of the exhibition, important documents and objects from Schönberg's studio are also shown, including music manuscripts and personal letters, which underline the versatile creativity and the influence of the composer on the art scene. Lawrence Schoenberg, a member of the family, expressed his joy about the final merging of the collection in the Arnold Schönberg Center, where innovative exhibitions are planned in the future that will combine music, virtual reality and various interactive formats. These developments show how alive and relevant Schönberg's work remains in today's world and what creative strength continues to draw from his artistic heritage.

and Kleine Zeitung have documented the details of this important gift.
