Gigantic bronze sculpture is reminiscent of Franz Reinisch: Art meets history!

Ruprechtskirche, Wien, Österreich - In Vienna, an impressive art installation is unveiled on the occasion of the "Ecumenical Ash Wednesday" that appeals to profound historical and social issues. The oversized bronze sculpture "headed", created by the South Tyrolean artist Lois Anvidalfarei, is presented in the Ruprechtskirche, the oldest church in the city. This work of art is to remind of the Palottinian Father Franz Reinisch, who was the only priest to refuse to flag the flags to Adolf Hitler and was executed in 1942. The artist emphasizes that the installation represents a memorial for the victims of unfair deaths and, especially in the context of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, receives meaning, as on kathpress.at is reported.

At the opening ceremony, which is led by church principal Alois Riedlsperger and the Protestant theologian Dorothea Haspelmath-Finatti, the installation is integrated into the liturgy of Lent. Anvidalfarei does not describe the head as a portrait representation of Reinisch, but as a symbolic image for "studying a separated head in the last struggle for life". The sculpture will be seen until the beginning of May and is part of the continuous discussion of the community with contemporary art. The artist himself also sees both the trauma of the war as well as moments of beauty and humanity, as tirol.orf.

The artwork asks to think about the dark chapters of history and at the same time to take hope of a more peaceful future. This connection of art and history not only tries to remember, but also to stimulate the dialogue about the past and your teachings for the future.
