Festival year Johann Strauss 2025: Brilliant opening on New Year's Eve!

The big celebrations for Johann Strauss's 200th birthday are just around the corner! On December 31, 2024, Vienna will be transformed into a musical paradise when the festival year of Johann Strauss 2025 is opened with a spectacular New Year's Eve concert at Rathausplatz. With an impressive countdown under the direction of Martin Grubinger and a 100-member volume of talented Viennese, a fresh new arrangement of the famous Danube Waltz is presented live. As the Vienna Holding reports, the event is supported by a large number of artists, including the rapper Def Ill and the celebrated pop singer Ankathie Koi.

festive program and highlights

The first days of the new year already promise exciting highlights. An artistic escape room, designed by the artist Deborah Sengl, will open in the museum district on January 3, 2025. This interactive experience, which plays with Johann Strauss' inner life, is intended to offer the participants new insights and stimulate a deeper thinking. In addition, there are numerous other events on the program in January, including the Austrian premiere of the dance piece "Valse, Valse, Valse" in the Jungle Vienna and a souvenir concert with the Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv in the Musikverein Vienna, as can be found on the website of Johann Strauss 2025.

tribute to the violin and the master composer

As part of the homage to Strauss, the birthday concert of the Viennese symphonists, conducted by Manfred Honeck, will also be a special highlight. The important violin virtuoso Anne-Sophie Mother will be in the center and perform works of contemporary composers such as Max Richter, who are dedicated to Strauss's extraordinary art. This event will establish a successful connection between the past and the present, whereby the musical offspring, represented by the Viennese singing boys, will also be an important part of the program, as was also reported.
